Are You Maximising Your Social Impact at Trade Shows?

I recently attended a trade show and I had the luxury of not working on a stand! A mission to drastically increase the social impact of a brand I work for. Here’s a few of my key tricks… Cross promote If you can get off your stand, go and visit other brands who you either already partner with, or you would like to. Ask them about what’s hot news for them at the show, then ask if you take a photo to share with your followers. Tweet something complimentary but authentic about their brand and then tag them in the picture and ask them to retweet you to their followers. Live tweet about the event When out and about, look for great PR shots of the event itself. Then tweet prolifically about how amazing various aspects of the event are and tag in the organisers of the event to encourage them to retweet you. This approach also works in the lead up to and after the event, simply tweet about reasons to attend the event, and why it was so great afterwards. All they had to do was click retweet to promote their own event. When they see it and read your glowing blog, they are bound to share your social post with their followers as its great PR for their brand!

I recently attended a trade show and I had the luxury of not
working on a stand! This is a rarity for me and I’m sure it is for
many of you too! There was no standing around trying
(unconvincingly) to look busy when the traffic to the stand lulled.
I wasn’t stood sucking on mints desperate for the sugar hit. And I
wasn’t even trying to cover up a lingering hangover from the press
party from the night before!

No, I was there on a mission! A mission to drastically increase
the social impact of a brand I work for. More specifically, I was
tasked with utilising the popular industry event to significantly
increase the brands social reach and engagement rates and I’m
pleased to say I smashed it! On viewing the Twitter analytics data
back in the office, I discovered I had increased their average
social reach on Twitter tenfold over the course of two days, the
number of juicy retweets from prolific brands was at an all-time
high, Facebook shares had doubled and I was only actually at the
show for an afternoon! Before you ask, no I don’t have superpowers,
I just take a rather strategic approach when it comes to social and
you can too. Here’s a few of my key tricks…

  1. Cross promote

If you can get off your stand, go and visit other brands who you
either already partner with, or you would like to. Ask them about
what’s hot news for them at the show, then ask if you take a photo
to share with your followers. Do it there and then and ask your
partner brand for input on messaging so…
